Clergy Resources

For clergy, it can often be easy to pour out care and compassion to others and neglect our own spirit. Self-care, personal growth, and rest are all aspects of spiritual care for pastors. Resources for setting clear boundaries, continuing personal growth and education, and opportunities for renewal are all featured here.

Boundary Training

We are called to continue to grow, professionally and personally. Boundary training is a requirement for all authorized ministers in the United Church of Christ. Associations also require Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as a form of professional accountability. These range from involvement in the wider Church, to independent study and workshops or classes.

Clergy Communities of Practice

A Community of Practice is a facilitated small group of UCC clergy. They are dedicated spaces for collaborative learning, reflection, and conversation about their ministries. Groups covenant to meet monthly for 2 hours, for a year at a time, and covenant to nurture an environment of collegial trust, collaboration, and support.

Resources for Lay-Led Service

Please consider giving your pastor(s) and staff an extra paid week off this winter (including Sunday) in addition to their regular vacation and personal time off. The week following Christmas or at the beginning of the new year is a perfect time to thank them for having journeyed with your congregation through this time of unprecedented change, and you can encourage them to take the extra time for renewal and Sabbath. We invite you to also use the gift of the attached Lay-led Worship Service at the Turning of the New Year to invite members and friends to host a time of worship while your pastor and staff are away.
