All SCNC clergy complete Boundary Training every five years a part of maintaining Active Ministerial Standing with the United Church of Christ. Clergy desiring to check the date of their boundary training may contact the Conference Office. Clergy may select from one of the following options to fulfill this requirement:
Option: A Contemplative Approach to Boundary Awareness Training
Date: Dec 3, 2024, 7am-1 pm Pacific (9-3 Central time)

This Boundary Awareness Training allows authorized ministers in the United Church of Christ to fulfill their periodic training via a contemplative approach to the self-awareness needed to uphold healthy boundaries in ministerial practice. We will learn two contemplative practices which help us sustain our ministries over time, as well as engage content via case studies, large and small group discussion. Topics covered:
- Interpersonal Relating
- Financial Boundaries and Best Practices
- Congregational Leave-Taking
- Social Media Presence
- Case Studies
- Reflection on the UCC Ordained Ministers Code
Expectations:

Option: Boundary Awareness Training Through the Lens of Wellness
Good professional boundaries allow ministry and those who do it to thrive with health and wholeness. Through the lens of clergy wellness, authorized ministers will renew their understanding of and develop skills for maintaining boundaries in an ever-shifting ministry landscape.
Hosted by the Southern New England Conference, this training fulfills the Boundary Training requirement. Please sign up for a 1.0 or 2.0 course depending on your previous training.
Through presentation, videos and small group discussion and sharing, the training explores:
- UCC Ministerial Code
- Managing self through change, compassion fatigue, and secondary traumatic stress
- Developing multiple tools for personal and professional wellbeing
- Preventing harmful behavior and harassment and promoting respectful behavior
- Common “sticky situations,” including but not limited to social media, leave-taking and dealing with difficult behaviors

- November 12 & 13, 2024, 6:30PM-8:30pm EST (both sessions must be attended)
- January 13 & 14, 2025, 1:00pm-4:00pm EST (1.0 for Members in Discernment and those new to ministry)
(both sessions must be attended) - February 26, 2025, 9:30am-2:30pm EST (2.0 for Clergy who have already taken a foundations course and are active in ministry)

Option to Learn at Your Own Pace: Boundary Awareness Training through Convergence
Learn from denominational experts and the team at Convergence about the need for and management of excellent boundaries.
This training combines reflections based on theological foundations, case studies, best practices and video interactions to explore:
- Boundaries in Pastoral Relationships with Adults
- Boundaries in Pastoral Relationships with Children & Youth
- Boundaries with Finances and Church Business
- Boundaries with Social Media
- Boundaries for Self-Care
Audience and Expectations:
- This course is appropriate for new and experienced clergy
