Dear Friends,

New Conference Staff Configuration

Our Board of Directors has approved a new staff configuration which will allow our office to improve our quality of ministry to our local congregations.  Over the course of the first twelve months of my ministry as Conference Minister, the staff and I have evaluated the needs of the Conference and have determined that the current staffing model inhibits us from serving you as well as we believe we should.

Our new staffing model will increase the ability of our office to meet the needs of searching churches, increase training for our pastors and lay leadership, foster relationships in the Conference, encourage stewardship, and increase our work with Youth & Young Adults.

This new staffing configuration will not affect our efforts to balance our Basic Conference Operations budget by 2013 and will provide new opportunities to improve our financial situation for the future.  The additional positions will be funded by Other Program Funds with one position being charged with the financial development of the Conference.  We are convinced this new structure will not only meet our current needs, but begin building our capacity for future ministry needs.  Here is what the new configuration looks like:

  1. Executive Associate Conference Minister . Keith Clark has been acting in this capacity for quite some time. His job description will expand to include oversight of other staff and task forces, assisting me with Church and Ministry functions and some Search and Call duties. He will continue directing the financial and administrative functions of the Conference office.

  2. Associate Conference Minister for Church Relations. This will be a new full-time position. The job description includes the development and implementation of a financial development strategy (OCWM, Per Capita Annual Appeal). In addition, this individual will be responsible for the oversight of Annual Gathering, Church Vitality and other events. Some Church and Ministry functions and Search and Call are also part of the job description. The Board of Directors has also approved this to be a direct hire. This means there will not be an official search for this position.

  3.  Young Adults Ministries Coordinator.  This will be a part-time position. This new position will be dedicated to the development of our upcoming leadership. This will also be a direct hire position.Neal Washburn, our current Youth and Young Adult Ministries Coordinator has created an effective ministry plan for our youth.  This new position will free Neal to focus solely on youth ministries while providing new leadership specifically for young adults, the new generation of Conference leaders.

  4. Consultant for QUAD-4 Churches: Gary Roberts will cease his employment as our Associate for Church Development effective December 31, 2011. He will be hired as of January 1, 2012 as a part-time independent contractor to work with three of four small churches for a period of a year.

Finally, we are in conversation with the Center for Progressive Renewal to assist our Conference with coaching. We hope this new configuration propels our ministry into a new future!

ONA:  We celebrate the official listing of Seaside Community Church as our latest Open and Affirming church! They became the UCC's 974th ONA Church. Congratulations!

Congratulations to these churches and their new pastors!
