Part-Time Youth Director

Summary: Under general supervision of the Christian Education Commission, and under guidance and direction of the Pastor, The Youth Director will provide administration and leadership to the youth in the church. The Youth Director is a professional staff person who is part of a team ministry to fulfill the church’s mission. This position is part time, based on 10 hours per week, days other than Sunday to be determined by candidate and used for planning, networking, and other required preparation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Youth Director will be generally responsible for the generation of policy, procedures, and philosophy for the CCUCC Youth Group(s). The Youth Director will lead the Youth Group(s) meetings and outings. This is a part time position and specific duties are outlined in the paragraph below and priority ranking of duties to be developed in consultation with the church Pastor.

The principal duties of the Youth Director are:
1. Establish the policy, procedures, and philosophy of the CCUCC Youth Program(s) in accordance to the CCUCC’s Mission Statement.
2. Administer these policies, etc. while leading the CCUCC Youth Programs.
3. Assist the Christian Education Commission with its duties regarding church youth.
4. Assist the pastor during Sunday worship services (Children’s Message, music, etc)
5. Generate participation from parents and maintain ongoing communication.
6. Seek to be engaged in outreach to the community.
7. Promote interest in conference, camp, and other UCC institutions.
8. Fill out a weekly time sheet for record purposes and forward to the pastor bi-weekly.
9. Meet weekly with Pastor.
10. Work with CE and Worship Commissions on program planning.
11. Oversee Youth Ministry Budget
12. Teach youth Sunday school.
13. Coordinate Children’s Message (i.e., find people to preach when youth director not present, etc.)
14. Attend Administration Night (the second Tuesday evening of each month).

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and/or Experience: This position requires an Associate degree (AS) or equivalent; or two to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must be 21 years of age or older.

Work Environment: The Youth Director should be able to work with the variety of persons who compose the church; professional and laity, young and old. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Compensation and Rewards: The total hourly rate, based on 10 hours per week, is $10.50 per hour. Social Security and Worker’s Compensation Insurance will be paid as required by law. Overtime may be negotiated with the Pastor as required.

Responsibilities include staff oversight, student recruitment, fund-raising and development, pastoral care for the larger Chapman community, and liaison to the local, regional and national DOC and UCC denominations. Qualifications required are a Masters of Divinity Degree and Ordination in the CC(DOC) or UCC church; broad knowledge of the principles and practices of annual giving, arts and cultural events giving, special events, and major gift fundraising experience preferably in a university setting; skill in communicating persuasively; computer skills; minimum five years experience in pastoral or specialized Disciples or UCC ministry; experience in working with church leaders and organizations; excellent organizational skills.
