these helpful tips and the
linked sample
newsletter article with great national UCC info on
church and flu concerns comes from Paul Tellstrom,
pastor at our Irvine church. I am grateful to Paul
for sharing this important approach and information---I
confess I hadn't 'gotten there' yet. Here are some
basics but also check out the article, it's really good
and worthy of your bulletins, newsletters, etc.
Paul has generously given permission to share
this. (And please take this as an example: if you
are ahead of our office on some important info, please
don't hesitate to share
it!!)
blessings,

TIPS FOR
CHURCHES in MIDST OF FLU CONCERNS
Pastors: Get hand sanitizers in your churches and
Sunday school rooms. Ask Sunday school teachers to talk
about the importance of washing hands.
For those of us who use intinction, Cokesbury has
an alternative to bread. Wafers are $11.95 for 1,000.
Also...for those with allergies to gluten, there are
Gluten-free wafers (40 for $9.95) as an alternative.
Pastors are reporting that more people take Communion
when this alternative is available. Cotters Religious
Supply also has wafers in supply.
Where you have two stations for Communion, you
might consider using real wine at one, and announcing
this CLEARLY. Alcohol kills germs.
Passing of the Peace: Announce that people should
not be offended if others do not wish to shake
hands.
It is perfectly safe to come to church! Let people
know that their leaders are making a safe space for them
through taking these safety measures.
